WHO WE ARE 

We provide free legal advice and representation for families in RBKC.

We provide specialist support on school exclusions, special educational needs (SEN), education appeals, and related issues. Our new Education Project is a pilot service offering practical, confidential help to parents, carers, and young people across the borough.

WHO WE HELP

  • Parents and carers of children facing exclusion or disciplinary action.
  • Families seeking support with EHCPs, SEN assessments, or provision disputes.
  • Young people needing advocacy in school-related matters.
  • Professionals seeking advice on referral routes for families.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • One-to-one consultations on exclusions, appeals, SEN rights, and other education related matters. 
  • Representation at meetings, tribunals, and appeal hearings.
  • Workshops and drop-in sessions explaining rights, processes, and how to prepare
    paperwork.
  • Outreach clinics in community hubs, children’s centres, and schools.
  • Referral support and signposting to complementary services (education, health, social care).

HOW TO ACCESS THE SERVICE

  • Drop-in clinics: Weekly sessions at local community centres within the borough. 
  • Workshops: Monthly evening and weekend sessions for parents and carers.
  • School surgeries: Short on-site consultations by appointment for parents and
    SENCOs.
  • Referrals: From schools, health visitors, social workers, and local advice agencies.
  • Self-referral: Call or email North Kensington Law Centre to book an appointment or
    to find your nearest drop-in session.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND APPROACH

We work with respect, confidentiality, and a focus on practical outcomes. Our caseworker will listen, explain your rights in plain language, and help you decide the best next steps for your child.

FLEXIBLE SUPPORT

We understand family commitments and offer flexible appointment times, including some evening sessions. If you need adjustments (interpreters, accessible venues), please let us know when you contact us.

WANT TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD?

If you work in a school, community group, or local service and would like leaflets, workshop sessions, or a short briefing for staff, please contact us—we welcome partnerships and referrals.

Urgency and deadlines:

Note: Permanent exclusion decisions and tribunal or appeal windows can be urgent. Provide dates of letters and decisions immediately. If an appeal or tribunal is possible, we will prioritise actions based on statutory time limits.  

Guidance for clients

Please bring originals and copies of documents to your appointment. If you are unsure which documents you have, bring what you have to North Kensington Law Centre, and we will help identify gaps. For urgent exclusions or appeals bring any dated letters immediately.
