50 years working for justice and fairness
We are proud to be known as the first ever Law Centre to open its doors in England. Our story began in 1970, when we saw the need to campaign and gain justice for some of the most poor and disadvantaged in the North Kensington communities. After us, many other Law Centres opened in London and beyond and we are proud of our roots within the Law Centre movement. The Law Centres Network still helps to ensure the quality of our work.
Since 1970, whilst the needs of the communities may have changed, the challenges are still there. And we continue to work with those who need access to legal services and cannot afford a private law firm.
We have continued to adapt to the needs of our community for almost five decades, we have been challenged ourselves but we have always remained true to our roots and continue to be a legal service with a social conscience.
We are proud to be part of the Living Wage movement as an accredited Living Wage Employer. This means that every member of staff in our organisation earns not just the minimum wage but the real Living Wage. The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. We pay our staff the London Living Wage to reflect the higher cost of living in the capital.
We believe that every member of staff deserves a Living Wage, because a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. You can find out more about the Living Wage by visiting www.livingwage.org.uk
